On well over 300 km of slopes in theEngadin (Engadin St. Moritz) there are more than 40 mountain lodges, restaurants and mountain huts, wonderful terraces and elegant bars. So there are many opportunities for skiers to crown a day in the snow with taste. Culinary experiences to try this winter include, for example, the revamped Chamanna food concept at Corviglia and ORMA whiskey tasting at the distillery at the summit of Corvatsch. And to prolong the idyll, all that’s left to do is to dine at altitude even after sunset and stay overnight in the mountain restaurant hotels Romantik Hotel Muottas Muragl and Berghaus Diavolezza.
Young chefs at the helm of Chamanna: menu to enjoy on the terrace surprises
At 2,672 meters on Corviglia on the ski slope along the Randolins cable car route, the Chamanna hut, beloved for its cozy sun terrace and superlative panoramic views, reopens Dec. 1, 2021 with a revamped food concept and style. Under the new management of two young Engadine men, Men Schneider and Patrik Kuhn, the historic eatery will continue to be a meeting place for all, but shot through with a breath of fresh air, both in design and in the kitchen. The two young restaurateurs picked up interesting insights into the culinary arts and new ideas and trends during their business trips around the world, mainly to Asia, Qatar and Germany. And now they look forward to bringing all these experiences into their work at Chamanna, without neglecting its history and identity, of course. What they promise, without revealing too much about the menu in advance, is to bring to the table a healthy and tasty mix of tradition, urban and international influences to surprise guests and make them discover dishes they did not yet know the mountains could offer.
White Marmot Restaurant & Bar: style, skiing and cuisine in one “place to be” on Corviglia
White Marmot Restaurant & Bar is Corviglia’s glamorous restaurant. It is presented in a retro style, a tribute to the burgeoning 1960s when pioneering chef Hartly Mathis revolutionized the concept of mountain gastronomy by bringing St. Moritz and Corviglia to the top of gourmet kitchens around the world. The style of the interior captivates by the extreme tastefulness with which colors (bottle green and antique pink) have been matched, by the sheep fur armchairs, and by the separation of rooms intended for different uses: lounge, bar, and restaurant. Among the halls of the White Marmot, Corviglia’s skiing tradition and sporting soul are continually recalled with paintings and graphic motifs on the walls, but especially because of the large windows from which it seems as if one can touch the snow-capped peaks. At the table we enjoy mainly traditional Engadine dishes but also international ones, revisited with the new techniques of modern cuisine. The White Marmot offers seating for about 170 people (excluding bar & lounge) and can also be booked exclusively and upon request for evening events.
Whiskey is distilled on Corvatsch: liquid gold at 3,000 meters in the world’s highest distillery
At 3,303 meters on the highest peak in Graubünden, Restaurant 3303 stands out for its fantastic gastronomic offerings and for hosting the world’s highest whiskey distillery where it seasons an exclusive single malt whiskey called ORMA. The 3,303 meters altitude has an interesting influence on the distillation process of the whiskey , which thus obtains more aromatic notes and greater complexity. Every Saturday at 2 p.m. from Jan. 8 to Feb. 26, 2022, there are guided tours of the distillery at the Corvatsch summit and tastings of ORMA whiskey in the company of the founders. A unique whiskey enthusiast experience from 44 CHF to book here: https://booking.engadin.ch/de/activities/orma-degustation-und-fuhrung-in-der-destillerie
