Fromthe ski slopes directly to the sauna to enjoy, after a day spent in the snow, the warmth of a spa at 2,000 meters above sea level with a view of Mont Blanc. The King of the Alps, a 4-star accommodation created by the transformation of the Hotel Maison de Neige in La Thuile, Aosta Valley, into a unique and innovative project of the highest quality, has opened its doors to the public.
In fact, a modern and elegant building has risen next to the historic structure, allowing guests to access the hotel from a new reception and lounge area. Inside, a spa with breathtaking views of the snow-capped mountains and 12 new rooms, including 3 executive suites and 5 junior suites with private spa areas inside.
A project strongly desired by the property’s owner, who entrusted the design to Studio D73, an internationally renowned architecture and interior design firm. The architectural design, on the other hand, was handled by Studio Associato LGL.
Originating in 1924 from a military barracks built for border guards, the hotel is located on the runway number 7 St. Bernard, the longest in the area of the same name and one of the longest in the Italian landscape, and is reached – throughout the winter season – on skis or by snowcat provided by the facility itself.
The King of the Alps’ new spa at 2,000 meters.
The renovation project covered a total of 1,400 square meters and expanded the accommodation offering to 26 rooms, new lounge areas within the hotel, as well as a new wellness area that will also be able to accommodate guests not staying at the hotel, with locker rooms and a dedicated reception area.
Different types of sauna, steam room, a Mediterranean wet bath and reaction showers, as well as a large infinity pool with waterfalls for neck massage and water games are the main elements of the Wellness & Relaxation Spa of the King of the Alps: soaking in the warm water or comfortably reclining on the seats in the relaxation area, you can admire the breathtaking view of the Alps from the large windows overlooking the pristine valley.
Pure well-being surrounded by white snow and the light and bright hues of the rooms
Just a handful of miles from the Petit St. Bernard Pass, the King of the Alps welcomes guests to a meticulously detailed lounge in elegant modern style with Alpine references. A little Made in Italy jewel in the heart of the Aosta Valley: the warm colors of the comfortable entrance seating combine with wood and slate tone, all illuminated by the modern wall fireplace and the sheen of backlit onyx at the reception desk.
Also designed for wellness and relaxation in the hotel are the rooms of the new facility, with a color combination with a relaxing effect and maximum comfort designed for guests: the suites are equipped with Private SPA inside, to experience the wellness of the new facility in total privacy.
The project also saw the renovation of the bar area of the historic structure and the creation of a new pergola: a large veranda with large windows that span the white peaks of La Thuile. Immersed in the silence of the snow, guests will feel as if they are touching the mountains with one finger. Also redesigned is the ski room, which, thanks to recent interventions, becomes even more functional and welcoming.
Important changes that add to the existing rooms and areas, such as the gourmet restaurant, considered among the best in the Aosta Valley, which historically boasts creative and refined chefs.
The King of the Alps is designed to meet a specific need of mountain customers, dedicated to sports – guaranteed by the 160 kilometers of slopes of the Espace San Bernardo straddling France and Italy-but also in search of relaxation and good food who will discover here a charming resort to spend their days away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
