In the heart ofUmbria, Lake Trasimeno is not only a breathtaking destination for nature and history lovers, but also a pioneering example of inclusive tourism. With the “Trasimeno for All” project, the region aims to transform this beautiful area into an accessible place for every traveler, meeting the needs of those who dream of a barrier-free vacation.
Trasimeno: a New Model of Tourism for All
The project, which was presented at the prestigious TTG in Rimini, represents an ambitious and unique initiative, realized thanks to the contribution of Sviluppumbria and regional and national partners. In line with the U.N. Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Trasimeno aims to become an all-round inclusive destination, offering an unlimited welcome to anyone who wants to explore Umbria in total freedom.
Accessibility and Inclusion in Cultural Places.
In addition to nature, Trasimeno offers a dive into Umbrian culture. From the Tulle Museum to the Mariottini Collection to the Sbarra Museum and the Glass Museum, each place has been enriched with Braille texts, tactile reproductions for blind people, audio guides for children and LIS videos for the deaf. An experience that makes local art and culture available to all, respecting the needs of each visitor.
Nature Without Limits: The Trasimeno Cycleway
Nature lovers will find a wide range of accessible activities at Lake Trasimeno. The famous Trasimeno Ciclovia (Lake Trasimeno Cycleway) now has orientation and information signage to facilitate each excursion. With a dedicated app, visitors can plan their accessible excursions safely, with routes designed for those using wheelchairs, joëlette or other assistive devices.
An Inclusive Tourism Offer for Local Businesses.
“Trasimeno for All” also impacts local businesses by supporting accessibility improvement initiatives for hotels, restaurants and services. Twelve local projects have been funded to create unforgettable, barrier-free experiences: from buses equipped for accessible transportation to cooking classes designed for those with special needs and the use of advanced digital technologies.
Training and Employment: An Inclusive Future for Youth
Inclusiveness also means giving professional opportunities to young people with disabilities. Thanks to the collaboration with ARPAL Umbria, the project provides ten training internships for young people with disabilities, offering them the chance to acquire professional skills in the tourism sector. These internships represent a concrete step toward more inclusive employment, in a sector that welcomes all diversity.
A Digital Portal Fit for All
The Umbriatourism portal, the beating heart of Umbrian tourism, has been revamped to offer easy access for all, thanks to AI-powered chatbots and interactive content. Whether searching for information on the Trasimeno Cycle Route or exploring museums, the portal offers intuitive and accessible navigation.
