What’s new for summer 2025 at Hotel Plunhof
As of June 19, 2025, Plunhof reopens its doors for the summer season with exclusive new features designed to make the experience even more extraordinary. Starting with the 28 new rooms, each with a stunning private whirlpool on the terrace, for an even more exclusive stay experience.

Also new is the stunning 25-meter panoramic Sky Pool on the third floor, “Fonte Celeste,” reserved for adults (+16) to experience that magical feeling of finding oneself suspended in the clouds. Plus: the “Silence of the Peaks” oasis of tranquility in the new relaxation space on the second floor, perfectly integrated with the existing pool.
The new event sauna “Courtyard of Light” is an atmospheric environment, overlooking the inner courtyard, letting in natural light while blending with the rejuvenating steam room “Mountain Flaps,” inspired by the purity of the alpine air. All designed for wellness that goes beyond the usual schemes.

That’s not all: the restaurant is also being renovated, with modern interiors, soothing tones and a more intimate atmosphere, thanks to cozy alcoves to experience tasteful moments, and the buffet area, with an optimized layout and an even richer selection. The bar with terrace is now located on the second floor of the hotel, with a beautiful outdoor space for sipping a drink or a glass.

In addition, there is a reserved space in the underground garage for each room, for an even more comfortable and refined welcome. Altogether, the Plunhof now reaches 95 rooms and suites marked by the warmth of local wood combined with the energy of stone, for a stay where privacy, space and attention to detail make all the difference.
Breakout in the Spa (award-winning)
After a day in the great outdoors, including hiking, bike tours and rejuvenating walks, nothing is more rejuvenating than a stop at the Spa. And if the spa in question is one of the most internationally awarded, then relaxation turns into an unparalleled experience. The Minera Acqua & Spa, a 4,000-square-meter wellness oasis, smells of mountain pine, spruce and larch. It is inspired by the valley’s 800-year mining tradition. Here, ancient stones from the nearby mountains become the stars of a unique sensory journey. The wellness journey winds through mining saunas (up to 100°C), steam bath, biosauna, infrared sauna, and a panoramic rooftop relaxation area.

The experience continues with Kneipp pools, an atmospheric cave world with a mining pond, and a spectacular aquatic area with a 20-meter indoor pool and a relaxation pool that opens to the outdoors. Rounding out the wellness journey are treatments that build on the energetic power of the Alps and use Dottor Spiller Biocosmetics and QMS! Medicosmetics. The highlight is the “Primordial Ritual” with silver quartzite, an experience that combines the power of silver quartzite with herbs, resins and flowers from the Aurina Valley to calm the nervous system and promote deep relaxation.

For an experience of total harmony with nature, the Plunhof’s outdoor area is a true piece of paradise with its natural swimming pond, saltwater pool with whirlpool, heated spring water pool and spacious areas dedicated to relaxation, with breathtaking panoramic views of the mountains and the St. Magdalena miners’ church.
Authentic flavors and a winery to discover
An Alpine oasis made of water, glass and materials from the depths of the earth, the Plunhof is a facility to be discovered with the five senses to immerse yourself in wellness in the round. The sensory journey also continues at the table: at Plunhof, cooking is indeed an art that enhances the quality of regional products. The freshest ingredients, recipes that tell the story of South Tyrolean tradition with a touch of creativity, and a cellar of excellence that houses fine labels from South Tyrol, Italy, and the world, carefully stored in the Bacchus Cellar.

Escape to the cool of Val Ridanna: hiking, mine tours, breathtaking waterfalls
Val Ridanna is a small, peaceful valley, a treasure trove of treasures, perfect not only for sports and hiking enthusiasts, but also for families who want to enjoy the peace of nature. It lies just 16 km from Sterzing, in the heart of the Breonie Alps. A hike not to be missed? The ascent to Rifugio Biasi al Bicchiere, the highest refuge in South Tyrol (at 3,195 meters), a 7-hour hike from the Ridanna valley floor that offers incredible views and an exciting challenge for experienced mountaineers. The other must-do experiences in the area? The World of Mines in Ridanna Monteneve (5 km from the hotel): here you can take a trip back in time, discovering the mining tunnels where silver was mined for centuries.
A fascinating guided tour takes guests through the nearly 800-year-old mining history of this area. Among the recommended trails is the scenic Burkhard Gorge trail, which starts at Masseria (1.8 km from the hotel) and gives spectacular views of the rushing waters of the Ferner River and the peaks of the Stubai Alps. Then there are the famous Stanghe waterfalls, in Racines (6.5 km from the Plunhof), a true masterpiece of nature that runs through a narrow gorge, providing a spectacle of noise, spray and water flowing between walls of white marble. An immersive experience, with wooden footbridges and bridges accompanying along the way.

By cable car, on foot, on e-bike, with fishing rod
For those who don’t want to work too hard, the Racines-Giovo Panorama Cabin (8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.) takes you up to the mountain station of the hiking area at 1,800 m a.s.l. Here you can enjoy a unique panoramic view and set off on countless trails. Many other peaks make Ratschings a hiking paradise: the Big Heel Mountain (2,669 m), the Altakraut Peak (2,743 m) or the White Horn (2,705 m) are just a few of the most famous names that enchant the hearts of hikers. Those who want to embark on a less strenuous tour can choose from a variety of walks, such as the Ridnaun High Route, the ascent to Lake Oven, or the Seventh Lakes Tour. The Plunhof Alp is also a wonderful and popular destination.
Mountain bikers and e-bikers (bikes that can be rented directly at Hotel Plunhof) will find numerous trails of all levels. For those who dream of flying, however, Val Ridanna is also an ideal paragliding destination, with opportunities to take a tandem flight with an expert. For a more relaxing experience, the area also offers mountain lakes and streams ideal for fishing, with more than 30 species of fish. Erwin, an experienced fisherman and hunter, accompanies Plunhof guests to the best spots and purest nature upon request.
Summer 2025 events in Ridanna Valley
The calendar of events in summer in Val Ridanna is very rich. Highlights include the fifth Ratschings Mountain Trails (June 15, 2025) trail running race of 27 km, 17 km or 8 km. During the traditional Alp Festival (in July) people walk and celebrate from alpine pasture to alpine pasture, where they can enjoy many typical South Tyrolean specialties and listen to live music. Val Ridanna also hosts unique cultural events: the “Mountain Music Festival” (in July) celebrates alpine music.
