The Island Pongwe is an eco resort with only 6 rooms and a gourmet restaurant, the perfect retreat for true travelers seeking exclusivity and top-notch service, so much so that it won the award for Best Boutique Hotel in Zanzibar.
The elegant and sophisticated côté goes hand in hand with the eco-sustainable soul that permeates the entire structure, right from its construction. The Island Pongwe was made of recycled wood, thus avoiding cutting trees and building only where there was free space, without harming nature.
The Island Pongwe: a “plastic free” luxury resort
The boutique hotel in The Cocoon Collection chain is also completely “plastic free” and is designed to have a very low energy footprint thanks in part to the introduction of photovoltaic and wind power systems.
An ‘African Chic’ atmosphere in a natural and eco friendly environment, where real travelers, in addition to enjoying a relaxing experience, can experience the authenticity of the place through immersive experiences with the local community that has been working with the Sofia Luna Azzola Foundation for years.
A unique experience in Zanzibar
The Island Pongwe, located in the fishing village of the same name, allows guests to spend a morning fishing on a classic Zanzibarian “Ngalawa” boat. Accompanied by village captains and in partnership with local fishermen and producers, you can experience the same hand-line fishing that has been handed down for generations in Zanzibar .
The relationship with the local area and the entire supply chain of local producers and farmers is the basis of the management of The Island Pongwe as it allows the resort to cover about 80 percent of its supply through zero-kilometer food.
