[dropcap type=”default”]L[/dropcap]e call it the “garden city,” and it is no accident: Merano, the second largest city in South Tyrol, thanks to the thermal heart is as lush as a botanical garden, and it almost doesn’t feel like an Alpine resort until you look up at the towering peaks of the Texel Group, which dominate the landscape beyond the pointed roofs of the houses.

The wellness path at Villa Eden

In addition to being beloved for its pedestrian-friendly old town made up of colorful streets and squares with a fascinating mix of ancient and modern, Merano has always been a holiday resort of the Austro-Hungarian Empire: Empress Elisabeth of Austria herself and, after her, nobles and intellectuals from all over Europe, chose the city of Passirio for their spa stays, and even today those seeking a vacation dedicated to health and wellness cannot but choose Merano.

To enjoy the city’s beneficial waters, you can spend time at the Merano Thermal Baths, a true jewel of design set in the heart of the village: the cube of steel and glass embellished with warm wooden elements fits into its surroundings in perfect harmony, and all around it stretches the five-hectare park much appreciated especially in summer, for the tree-lined corners in which to find some refreshment.

Inside, in addition to a wide range of activities, the spa offers a rich array of exclusive treatments based on local products, such as the malt and hop peeling, hot herb pad massages, and the buttermilk bath, much loved by Empress Sissi.

From Merano Spa to the magic of Villa Eden

In the outdoor park then you can enjoy one of the best-kept outdoor pools in the region, and it also has a pleasant Kneipp path(termemerano.it). If you prefer a more intimate and private retreat, a stay at Villa Eden is a must: from the panoramic swimming pool – beautifully overlooking the Adige Valley and the surrounding mountains – to the indoor pool, set like a pearl in a purely charming setting, from the Turkish bath to the infrared cabin, from the Shiatsu area to the whirlpool and the reading corner, everything is devoted to giving guests ideal relaxation.

All this is enhanced by the silence and green embrace of the centuries-old park in which the villa is nestled, as well as a series of activities aimed at healthy and effective remise en forme, such as aqua aerobics classes in the pool, fitness and yoga classes, as well as bike tours, walking and hiking (villa-eden.com).

And don’t leave Merano without trying these two goodies: a visit to the spectacular Trauttmansdorff Castle and especially to its gardens, considered among the most beautiful in the world due to the presence of more than eighty botanical environments with plants from all over the planet, complete with art pavilions and viewpoints, and a visit to the Tappeiner walk, route that leads to the cool Gilf Gorge and its magnificent panoramic view of the city (visitmerano.it).

Mandarin Oriental Wangfujing, Beijing Having conquered this attitude, the city shows itself in its eternal beauty and everyday hypertechnology. Among some special features such as cameras at every lamppost as in Sanlitum, an area of skyscrapers and nightlife in the Chaoyang district, and public toilets in the garden of the Temple of Heaven, where toilet paper is obtained only by facial recognition, Beijing, in its every alley, monument, garden or square transmits energy. In the relentless growth of the city's architecture, among the historic square-based siheyuan buildings, Beijing's architectural style, the last hutongs, the alleys that characterize downtown Beijing, wind their way, and here, amid souvenirs and curiosities, you can get lost in the transition between past and future. Wangfujing, one of the city's main and busiest streets in the central Dongcheng district, represents one of the nodes of the capital's vitality, between chic stores like in Paris and culinary experiments in the excellent if sometimes extreme street food. And it is in this area that the five-star Mandarin Oriental Wangfujing(mandarinoriental.com) boutique hotel overlooking the Forbidden City has opened. In the entrance hall, colorful fish-shaped chandeliers created from hundreds of fòrmica fragments and signed by Frank Gehry, while the hues of ancient Longquan Celadon ceramics were the inspiration for the textures of the carpets that adorn Mandarin Wangfujing. The rooms are sumptuous and the apartment suites with gardens and terrace, the Presidential Suite is reminiscent of the interiors of old and noble mansions. The two restaurants, Café Zi and Mandarin Grill + Bar, and MO Bar overlook the hotel's top-floor terrace garden and were designed by New York-based designer Adam D. Tihany, who emphasized an intimate atmosphere amid dark wood chairs and semicircular tables.La Mandarin Oriental Wangfujing SPA is one of the treasures of the Beijing hotel: the 4 treatment suites, the fitness center and the 25-meter pool illuminated by natural light coming through floor-to-ceiling windows, are designed to both relax and energize guests in environments of privacy and silence. In the Mirror Suite we work on mental and physical relaxation: using Gharieni quartz sand treatment and Tibetan bell therapy whose sounds restore normal vibratory frequencies in the imbalanced body-mind-spirit system. The Flower Suite, a couple's suite with a Moroccan theme, is arranged with a traditional hammam where mud, minerals, honey and olive oil are used to smooth the skin, while the Water Suite offers healing therapies and massages.Dedicated to beauty care for face and body is the Moon Suite where Venus Freeze Plus™, a combination of multipolar radio frequency and pulsed magnetic fields, and natura Bissé and Aromatherapy Associates products are used to reduce wrinkles and brighten the face. The Emperor Longevity treatment involves the use of Xiuyan green jade, the Gua Sha meridian technique, and the dry heat of quartz sand-an inspiration from the heart of the imperial city and its ancient medical wisdom.
